The ever encouraging Flopsy at LSF Publications suggested to me that I might like to try a Western spanking romance. After a lot of hesitation, hair pulling and screaming at the screen I finally produced The Reluctant Bride which appeared in August. So, glutton for punishment, I’ve started another. Elizabeth’s Flight has something in common with Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities…a coincidence lies at its heart. Elizabeth is another strong character but her parents are wealthy and well connected people. Her father is even a state senator and they want to marry her off to another wealthy and well connected man. In the nineteenth century an eighteen-year-old girl in those circumstances had a limited range of options and so Elizabeth plans an escape and takes flight.
It is astonishing just how much research one must do when writing a Western. For example, I was horrified to discover that in many US states the age of consent for a girl, right up to the end of the nineteenth century, was ten.
